Where Did the Time Go!

It has been a beautiful, BUSY summer and fall for us here, and I'm sure for you as well! One blink...and it's Christmas time! We've had a record year of weddings and events in 2015! The music/ DJ duo of Harden & Crenshaw have played many weddings at Sea Pines Resort and Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island as well as Palmetto Bluff and Colleton River in Bluffton. Here's some photos from several fall weddings.

Harden & Crenshaw Recently spent some time in the home studio updating their Samples page with some new tunes:

Budapest (George Ezra), FourFiveSeconds (Rihanna, Kanye, McCartney), Thinking Out Loud (Ed Sheeran), Everlong Acoustic (Foo Fighters) and a couple of classical pieces as well.

We're booking Harden & Crenshaw for summer/ fall dates in choice restaurants and for corporate events... and booking into October 2016 for weddings! Let us know how we can serve you!

We Support Love. Period.

Just got a rather curt email from a potential client saying they won't be using us after all because their research turned up that Moon River Productions participates in gay and lesbian weddings and receptions. Well, we're certainly glad to know of their bigotry and small-mindedness before we agreed to take on the bride and groom (that's right, WE choose the brides and grooms and clients we want to work with!). So, just to be on record, don't call, email or inquire about our availability if you are against gay marriage. We won't miss your business at all!

Engagement Time! Planning Time!

Happy New Year! It's that time of year for newly engaged brides and grooms to seek out their music and entertainment for their special day. We're happy to say that we've helped hundreds of brides and grooms plan their beach and Lowcountry weddings, just as they imagined. We offer premium live music and DJ services to make your wedding as unique and special as you are!

Brides 2014 American Wedding Study

Brides 2014 American Wedding Study

While promotions and marketing are important in reaching brides and grooms, Moon River Productions take a somewhat different approach with our methods and reasoning. You'll find us online at the top wedding industry sites such as theknot.com and weddingwire.com, but instead of filling our Facebook and Twitter feeds with "stuff" just to have "stuff" to say, we like to offer something of value. Our "non-cheesy" approach to DJing and entertainment overlaps with what we choose to post online as well.

BRIDES -- the number-one bridal brand in the world -- just announced the results from their 2014 American Wedding Study, the definitive analysis of spending and behavior around wedding planning. You can check out this intensive study HERE

We hope what we offer online and at Facebook and Twitter has some value to you and helps with your planning. We're always available for questions, so don't hesitate to call on us at any time.

We're big fans of brides and grooms who plan ahead and recently, we've contracted for Harden & Crenshaw with several newly engaged couples getting married in late 2015.

Most brides and grooms don't know that autumn dates (October and November particularly) are some of the most popular dates for weddings here in the Lowcountry... the weather is great (no threats of tropical storms or hurricanes), the temperatures are moderate, and the "no-see-ums" and mosquitoes have virtually disappeared.

If you're planning a fall wedding and desire the premium entertainment and venues that are just right for you, then drop us an email and let us take good care of you on your wedding day... that's what we do best!

New at wedding planning? Well, most brides and grooms are! Here's a great resource from the folks at The Knot to help you start the planning process. Contact us for any questions or concerns!

There really are no rules when it comes to designing your wedding ceremony and reception. You'll be sure to hear from just about everyone as to what you should or shouldn't do. Take suggestions with a smile and in stride, but don't be afraid to do things YOUR way and add YOUR touch to make for a unique day with lifelong memories. The Second Line Waltz

Getting married in a park nearby your reception location? Cut loose with a Second Line celebration with music and props and dance your way to the reception. Popular musician options to lead your Second Line include a Dixieland Jazz ensemble or a brass ensemble. Add some decorative boas and hats, and your guests can dance along with you to the reception site. Sure to attract attention and let everyone know you've just tied the knot- don't be surprised at the well-wishers cheering, offering their best wishes and snapping photos (and perhaps even joining in!). It's not every day one witnesses a Second Line celebration and it's guaranteed to make your special day unique and memorable.

Creative Table Arrangements

If you are having a hard time deciding on the table sizes and seating arrangements and want to group eight people together, but your tables only fit six then don’t be scared to use different size tables. Use square and round tables to breakup the feel of the room. The different size tables add to the decor and make it a bit more unique than the typical round tables.

Remember that this wedding is about celebrating your love and inviting your family and friends to see a glimpse of who you are. Don't be afraid to mix tables sizes, linens, centerpieces, etc. Your guests will appreciate the creativity and remember your day all the more for it!

Don't Forget the Boys!

From the flowers to the dresses and styles to the powder room, there's plenty for the ladies to ooh and aah over, so don't forget to include something special for the men.

A cigar bar is the perfect way to do this. Creating a cigar bar doesn’t have to break the bank. There are many sources online that offer mix and match cigars and full box purchases, which make it more affordable for you to add an extra special wedding surprise. Try providing cigars of all shapes and sizes to meet a variety of people.

This is YOUR wedding, so don't be afraid to do things differently. You're allowed! From music selection to table and decor design to pampering your guests with special treats- be bold and add your ideas and touch to help make special memories for everyone.

Music and Arts Education for Children

“A music-rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving is really bringing a very serious benefit to children as they progress into more formal learning."

“A music-rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving is really bringing a very serious benefit to children as they progress into more formal learning."

It's always great when we hear from our past clients, especially our brides and grooms who have a particular love for music and the arts and now have children of their own. Inevitably they mention how much their children love and appreciate music, too. Music and art appreciation is important. We encourage all new parents to expose their children to music at an early age and enroll them in lessons as soon as they show the ability to receive instruction. We know music lessons and music-art education makes for smarter, well-rounded children. Research proves it helps with learning in language development and mathematics. At Moon River, we are always researching new, cutting edge developments surrounding music. Not only for business and performance reasons, but also for the thrill of learning and a better understanding how the mind works in conjunction with music to help us make our world a better place.

Here's how YOU can help your kids explore music more fully:

  • Play your favorite music instead of watching TV
  • Listen to diverse styles and genres of music; classical, jazz, instrumental, reggae and more
  • Take up an instrument yourself if you don't already play one
  • If you do play, do so in front of your children (and let them see you having fun)
  • Sing to your children and encourage them to sing back
  • Place musical instruments around the house (an inexpensive drum, guitar or keyboard)
  • Expose them to live performances while they are young

Also, here's an informative article we recently discovered at PBS Parent by Laura Lewis Brown that we thought you'd enjoy on just how music helps childhood development.
